Foundation Academy defensive end second in country with 12.5 sacks.
There are a lot of differences between
Warren Sapp II and his Hall of Fame father, but one thing is definitely the same — they both know how to get to the quarterback.
Warren Sapp Sr. finished his 13-year NFL career as the No. 2 all-time leader for sacks by an interior lineman with 96.5. He was also a seven-time Pro Bowl participant and a four-time All-Pro.
A senior defensive end at
Foundation Academy (Winter Garden, Fla.), Sapp is second in the nation (according to stats submitted to MaxPreps) with 12.5 sacks after four games. He had his best game of the season last week in a 48-0 win over Northside Christian (St. Petersburg) as he racked up five sacks for 25 yards in losses.
In four games this season, Sapp has nearly equaled his entire sack total from 2017, when he led the team with 13.5 sacks. He earned All-County honors and was first team Class 2A All-State at defensive end.
For his career, Sapp has 130 career tackles, 29 sacks and 34 tackles for loss.
There are several differences between Sapp and his father. For one, the father was 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds in high school while the son is 6-1 and 235 pounds. The older Sapp was also a highly recruited defensive lineman coming out of Apopka in the early 1990s, where he also played tight end and punter. Sapp went on to play at Miami where he was a unanimous All-American in 1994.
The younger Sapp has not received the same type of attention from Division I schools like his father. However, he is still earning some notice.
"The colleges are still coming, but I'm not going to sweat about it," Sapp II told the Orlando Sentinel in June. "I'm very excited to see new colleges and new faces coming to me. I'm excited to see what's coming. Between a small school and a large school, it really doesn't matter to me. I just want to show everything I've got."
