If the Dayton Dust Devils were riding high off their 57-34 takedown of the Hug Hawks back in December of 2023, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Dayton had to suffer through a rough 65-19 loss at the hands of Fernley. Dayton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-10.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Dayton struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fernley racked up 22 assists.
Fernley was led to victory by Jaelece Wasson and Jasmyne Torres. Wasson scored 16 points, while Torres scored 16 points along with three steals. The match was Wasson's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Kaiserita Otuafi was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Dayton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Fernley, their win bumped their record up to 16-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dayton will take on Spring Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Spring Creek is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Fernley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against South Tahoe at 1:00 p.m. on January 6th. South Tahoe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 34th in California, while Fernley is ranked fourth in Nevada).
