Somerset is 9-1 against Osceola since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans will square off against the Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Somerset has four straight victories, Osceola has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Somerset got the win against St. Croix Central by a conclusive 8-2. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Marissa Wegleitner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Chloe Greeder was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Olivia Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Somerset was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, Osceola fell victim to Baldwin-Woodville and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the Blackhawks, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Somerset's win bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Osceola, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.
Everything went Somerset's way against Osceola when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Somerset made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
