Huntington extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 6-17. They came up short against the Piketon Redstreaks, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redstreaks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-1 back in April.
As for Piketon, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 22-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.
For Piketon's part, Saydi Childers made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Childers has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Piketon gave Peyton Day the start and clearly made the right call: she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Day has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Piketon got a massive performance out of Briar Penwell, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Penwell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Heath, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Huntington wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 14-11 loss against Green on the 2nd. As for Piketon, they will be playing at home against Valley at 5:00 p.m. on the 11th.
