After a string of four wins, the Kingstree Blazers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 82-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mullins. The match was a 30-30 toss-up at halftime, but Kingstree was outscored by Mullins in the second.
Several Blazers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Adarius Hilton, who scored 17 points. Micheal Kelly was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Leading Mullins to victory were Deyon Ford and JJ Davis. Ford scored 26 points along with five assists and four steals, while Davis scored 32 points along with six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least a third of Mullins' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Hughes, who scored 11 points along with two blocks.
Kingstree's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Mullins, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kingstree will take on Lee Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Lee Central is ranked 144th, while Kingstree is ranked 130th). Mullins won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Conway at 5:30 p.m. on January 20th.
