West Central recap October 1, 2013
Center moved up to 81 from 107 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in West Central. The Yellowjackets were able to move up by defeating St. Pius X 34-15.
Smith-Cotton made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,084 from 9,093. The advance stemmed from a 42-6 victory over Warrensburg last week.
Tanner Perry provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Clinton lost to O'Hara.
Perry was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 187 yards as the Cardinals fell to Center. Teammate Kieran Kuck added to the ground attack by rushing for 85 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, St. Pius X's Chris Beaubien and Bennie Palmentere have proven to be a lethal combination. Beaubien has thrown for 736 yards this season, while Palmentere, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 21 catches for 273 yards. Clinton's Perry leads the league in rushing yards with 647.
As it stands, the Tigers are in third, while the Celtics are in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Smith-Cotton and O'Hara face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Mark Johnson's team comes in having scored 110 this season, while James DeMarea's team has scored 113. The Tigers scored 42 points last week as they topped the Tigers.
Smith-Cotton led West Central in scoring this week by notching 42 points on Warrensburg. Chance McMullin ran for 157 yards and caught 4 passes for 56 yards in the win.
