Highland has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Highland Hawks and the Carl Hayden Community Falcons will round out the year against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Highland strolled past Corona del Sol with points to spare, taking the game 68-51. Given Highland's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Corona del Sol is ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Highland found their leader in underclassman Nick Reber, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. The match was Reber's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Michael Johnson, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Carl Hayden Community came up short against West Point on Tuesday and fell 65-56. Carl Hayden Community has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Highland pushed their record up to 7-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26 points. As for Carl Hayden Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Highland was able to grind out a solid win over Carl Hayden Community in their previous meeting back in November of 2015, winning 69-56. Does Highland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Carl Hayden Community turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
