Middle Tennessee Christian hasn't had much luck against Columbia Academy recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Cougars will host the Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Middle Tennessee Christian will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against The Webb School on Tuesday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 15-6 margin over the Feet. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Feet: they've now won nine in a row.
Kodi Hewitt made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allena Reynolds, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Blair Harrison, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Middle Tennessee Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbia Academy). They blew past Grace Christian Academy 17-2 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Anna Brewer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Brewer was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Columbia Academy got a massive performance out of Lila Pulley, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Carolina Johnson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Columbia Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Middle Tennessee Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Middle Tennessee Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Columbia Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
