River Ridge is 8-2 against Etowah since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The River Ridge Knights' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Etowah Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on February 14th. River Ridge has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 465 points over their last seven matches.
River Ridge can now show off 16 landslide victories after their most recent game on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Rome with a sharp 59-38 victory. Given River Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Rome is ranked 62nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Allie Sweet, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 16 times she's played. Sophia Pearl was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Etowah had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They snuck past Creekview with a 41-37 victory.
Megan Reed was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Savannah Aparicio, who scored eight points.
River Ridge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. As for Etowah, their victory bumped their record up to 15-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: River Ridge have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 37.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Etowah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for River Ridge against Etowah when the teams last played two weeks ago as the team secured a 70-35 victory. Does River Ridge have another victory up their sleeve, or will Etowah turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
