The Globe Tigers will square off against the Coolidge Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Globe has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Valley Christian hit Globe with a eight-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers came up short against the Trojans, falling 15-3. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Globe saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaeger Franco, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coolidge). They never let Apache Junction get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Tuesday. While the Bears didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Terry Churchwell looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ruben Baca, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Riley Hamilton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Coolidge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2025.
The victory made it two in a row for Coolidge and bumps their season record up to 8-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Globe, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Globe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coolidge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
