The Northwestern Lehigh Tigers will take on the Saucon Valley Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Northwestern Lehigh is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
While Northwestern Lehigh's win against Bangor wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers came out on top against the Slaters on Saturday by a score of 5-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Slaters: they've now won three in a row.
Northwestern Lehigh saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cannon Fitch, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Saucon Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let Pen Argyl get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Saturday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
Cole Hubert was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Noah Hubert was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Frank DiRusso was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Saucon Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Northwestern Lehigh, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northwestern Lehigh hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Saucon Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northwestern Lehigh might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Saucon Valley when the teams last played back in April. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
