Basketball Recap: Finnegan Martin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Galena over North Valleys

After a string of three wins, Galena's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 70-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Valleys Panthers. The Grizzlies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Galena's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Finnegan Martin, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zakery Smrt, who posted 13 points and three steals.

It was another big night for Joshua Collins, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 29 points for North Valleys. The matchup was Collins' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Kaden Shackelford was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Galena's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for North Valleys, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1.

Galena will welcome McQueen at 7:30 p.m. on December 20th. As for North Valleys, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mammoth at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in North Valleys' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
