The Clarke County Eagles will face off against the Stonewall Jackson Generals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Clarke County took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Page County as they made off with a 12-2 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stonewall Jackson). They put the hurt on Madison County with a sharp 16-6 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Generals needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Jonathan Heishman was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Heishman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those hits were his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Saeler, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aiden Springer, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Stonewall Jackson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Clarke County's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Stonewall Jackson, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Clarke County got the 'W' when the teams last played last Monday against Stonewall Jackson by a conclusive 17-5 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Generals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
