Baseball Recap: River Forest Wins Going Away Against Hammond Central

River Forest won the last time they faced Hammond Central and things went their way on Friday too. The Ingots were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Wolves. The result was nothing new for the Ingots, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Brandon Fergerson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Walter Jaime was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Roberto Herrera, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

River Forest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammond Central only posted an OBP of .318.

River Forest's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hammond Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13-1 record this season.

River Forest has already played their next game, a 13-0 win against Lake Station Edison on the 12th. As for Hammond Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 21-0 loss against Valparaiso on the 10th.
