Meanwhile, Western Albemarle fought the good fight in their extra-innings  game against Orange County  on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Fighting Hornets by a score of  6-5.
  Julian Miles was cooking despite his team's loss,   getting on base  in all five of his plate appearances with two  runs. He has become a key player for Western Albemarle: the team is 2-1 when he posts  at  least  two  runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
 Western Albemarle's  defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Monticello, their record now sits at 4-6.
