Springfield has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the North Eugene Highlanders at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oregon Rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while the Highlanders are ranked seventh).
Last Friday, Springfield was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-41 to the Comets. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Springfield in their matchups with the Comets: they've now lost eight in a row.
Meanwhile, North Eugene waltzed into their contest on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They blew past Eagle Point 67-43. North Eugene has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 23 points or more this season.
North Eugene's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elias McKinnis, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists. It was the first time this season that McKinnis posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was India Mohiuddin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Springfield's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-14. As for North Eugene, their victory bumped their record up to 17-2.
Springfield was taken down by the Highlanders 75-35 in their previous matchup back in January. Can Springfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
