The Clearview Clippers will head out on the road to challenge the Brookside Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Clearview has given up an average of 15.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Clearview's last matchup with Lorain could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Saturday. The Clippers lost 19-6 to the Titans. The Clippers just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.
Janessa Pagan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Amor' Ruiz also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Brookside scored the most runs they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 20-17 to Firelands. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Markie-Ann Aliff was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and 16 unearned) runs off 14 hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs.
In other batting news, Khloe Racz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Leann Clark was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Brookside has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Clearview, their record is now 1-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Clearview has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Brookside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Clearview suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Brookside in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Clippers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
