The Navajo Prep Eagles took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday (and then some). They blew past Kirtland Central 69-32 at home. Given Navajo Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Kirtland Central is ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Navajo Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Xavier Nez out in front who scored 16 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Jude Thomas, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and three steals.
Navajo Prep's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.38 points. As for Kirtland Central, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-1.
Navajo Prep will head out on the road to face off against Silver at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Kirtland Central, they will be playing at home against Pojoaque Valley at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
