The Tempe Buffaloes will be playing at home against the Mingus Marauders at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Tempe has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Mingus will arrive with five straight wins.
Last Friday, Tempe came up short against Marcos de Niza and fell 35-27.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kiari Montanez Woods, who scored 8 points. Coral Garcia Miranda was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Mingus has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 31 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat Cactus 74-8 at home. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 22 more assists than your opponent, as Mingus did.
Mingus' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Savannah Tobias, who scored 15 points along with 8 steals and 6 rebounds, and Alice Kinsey, who scored 22 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Kinsey has scored at least 25% of Mingus' points. Another player making a difference was Riana Barre, who scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 steals.
The losses dropped Tempe to 0-4 and Marcos de Niza to 2-3.
Tempe was taken down by Mingus 63-11 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Tempe, Taylor Brock (who almost dropped a triple-double on 30 points, 20 rebounds, and 9 steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
