Colton Lucero had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 207 yards and four scores while picking up 12.9 yards per carry. He has become a key player for Pagosa Springs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise. The Pirates also got a significant boost from Alex Pacheco, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pagosa Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 339 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 183 rushing yards in six consecutive games.
Pagosa Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Lucero, Creede Dozier, and Jimmy Elledge picked up one apiece. Lucero's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 132 rushing yards. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Alamosa on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Salida out of the water with a 50-13 final score. The win continues a trend for the Mean Moose in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won four in a row.
Pagosa Springs' victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Alamosa, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Pagosa Springs has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 265.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Alamosa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 202.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Pagosa Springs came up short against Alamosa in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 14-8. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
