Baseball Recap: Vanguard Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

There's no place like home for Vanguard, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Everything went their way against the Gainesville Hurricanes on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Cooper Ragle tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nate Navarro was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Clayton ?CT? Antonucci, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Vanguard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gainesville only posted an OBP of .222.

Vanguard's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Gainesville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vanguard will head out to face off against Matanzas at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Gainesville, they will head out on the road to square off against Buchholz at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hurricanes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
