While the Wisner-Pilger Gators couldn't quite beat the West Point-Beemer Cadets on Saturday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 34-point loss they were dealt last Friday. Wisner-Pilger fell just short of West Point-Beemer by a score of 47-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Wisner-Pilger has suffered yet this season.
Wisner-Pilger's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haley Kneifl, who scored 19 points along with three steals. Kneifl has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Ramsey Arduser was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Wisner-Pilger struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Allie Kaup, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds for West Point-Beemer. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kaup has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Hunke, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for Wisner-Pilger and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for West Point-Beemer, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season.
Wisner-Pilger will be playing at home against Howells-Dodge at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Howells-Dodge is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for West Point-Beemer, West Point-Beemer and Pierce will face off on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Pierce is ranked 92nd, while West Point-Beemer is ranked 96th).
