Abbeville is 3-0 against the Rebels since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Abbeville Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Mid-Carolina Rebels at 8:00 p.m. Abbeville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully the Rebels like a good challenge.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Abbeville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top against Ninety Six by a score of 66-54. Given Abbeville's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Wildcats are ranked 275th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Damarcus Leach, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 23 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Altavious Patterson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mid-Carolina unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 70-39 defeat at the hands of Newberry. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mid-Carolina in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost five in a row.
Abbeville pushed their record up to 10-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Mid-Carolina, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-12.
Abbeville beat the Rebels 63-51 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Abbeville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
