Basketball Recap: C.B. Aycock Falls Short of Westover in the Playoffs

C.B. Aycock and Westover squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but C.B. Aycock had to settle for second. They fell to the Westover Wolverines 35-30. The Golden Falcons' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

C.B. Aycock's loss came despite strong showings from Alonna Frederick and Madison Smith. Frederick posted eight points in addition to nine boards and three steals, while Smith earned nine points and five rebounds. That's the most steals Frederick has posted since back in December of 2023.

Westover found their leader in sophomore Ja'Naisha Carney, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Carney has scored at least a third of Westover's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Burns, who had seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.

C.B. Aycock's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Westover, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-11 record this season.

C.B. Aycock does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Westover, they have already played their next game, a 50-35 defeat against Fike on the 28th.
