Community Christian relied on the efforts of Isaiah Lee, who gained 118 total yards and three touchdowns, and Fredrico Jones, who threw for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in passer rating (163.2).
Community Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jones. Community Christian received some extra help from Austin Anthony, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Augusta E faced Georgia School for Innovation & Classics in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Eagles took a 24-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Augusta E saw an underclassman step up: freshman Walter Fullbright threw for 273 yards and three TDs on only 18 passes. 132 of Fullbright's passing yards were hauled in by Luke Reese.
Even if they lost, Augusta E's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Community Christian pushed their record up to 6-1-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.8 points on average over those games. As for Augusta E, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Community Christian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Augusta E struggles in that department as they've been averaging 195 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
