The West Valley Mustangs had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Citrus Hill with a 65-60 victory on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading West Valley to victory were Malachi Black and Ahkil McClellan. Black dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, while McClellan scored 19 points along with two steals. Black hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Alexander, who scored seven points along with six steals.
Despite the loss, Citrus Hill still got an impressive performance from Roland Thibodeaux, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jerren White, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
West Valley's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Citrus Hill, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-13.
West Valley will head out on the road to face off against Perris at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Perris is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Citrus Hill, they will be playing in front of their home fans against San Jacinto at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Jacinto knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Citrus Hill likes a good challenge.
