Softball Recap: Cambria Heights Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Cambria Heights had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on the Conemaugh Township Indians with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Highlanders have won seven games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylee Lane tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ellie Bender and Meghan Wholaver did most of the damage at the plate: Bender went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Wholaver went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kaylie Bradley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Cambria Heights hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conemaugh Township struck out nine times.

Cambria Heights' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Conemaugh Township, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cambria Heights will square off against Penns Manor at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Comets have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Conemaugh Township, they will take on Windber at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
