The West Franklin Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Humboldt Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, West Franklin took a serious blow against Osage City, falling 46-13. West Franklin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-0.
Although West Franklin took the loss, they still got scores from Brody Prouty and Gavin Gonzales.
Meanwhile, Humboldt got themselves on the board against Cherryvale on Friday, but Cherryvale never followed suit. They breezed by the Chargers at home to the tune of 66-0. The result was nothing new for Humboldt, who have now won five contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Humboldt's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Mathes, who rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Ellis, who rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
West Franklin's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-2 Council Grove (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). Humboldt has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven matchups, giving them a 6-1 record.
West Franklin took a serious blow against Humboldt when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 48-6. Thankfully for West Franklin, Trey A sommer (who rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 40 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
