Richmond is 2-7 against Marion since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Richmond Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Marion Giants at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Richmond strolled past Floyd Central with points to spare, taking the game 75-61. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Richmond.
Among those leading the charge was Cedric Horton, who scored 22 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Richmond's points. Another player making a difference was Mason Carpenter, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Marion came up short against Hamilton Southeastern on Saturday and fell 71-64.
Marion's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaymen Townsend, who scored 24 points along with 9 rebounds, and Tim Jones who scored 16 points along with 3 steals. The match was Townsend's third in a row with at least ten points. Tusi Jackson was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
Their wins bumped Richmond to 2-0 and Floyd Central to 1-2.
Richmond couldn't quite finish off Marion in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 and fell 63-61. Can Richmond avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
