AAAA Region II recap October 22, 2013
Byrnes extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region II this week by beating Gaffney, 61-20. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Rebels.
Boiling Springs and Spartanburg played the most contested game in the league this week, with Boiling Springs eventually emerging with a 41-38 victory.
Byrnes' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Shuler Bentley threw for 357 and 5 touchdowns and Greg McHam had 155 yards receiving. On the ground Najee Bowens chipped in 102 yards. Tavin Richardson helped Byrnes' passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 120 yards.
He went 19-29 with 0 interceptions.
McHam was the best receiver in the league this week as Bobby Bentley's team beat the Indians. McHam racked up 8 receptions for 155 yards. Richardson helped Byrnes' passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 120 yards.
The Rebels' Bentley and Shaedon Meadors led AAAA Region II in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Bentley has thrown for 2,916 yards this season, while Meadors has 44 catches for 949 yards. Hyleck Foster from Gaffney leads the league in rushing with 903 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Dorman and the Bulldogs. The Cavaliers comes into the matchup ranked 14th in the state, while Boiling Springs ranks 15th.
Byrnes' Meadors is only 51 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the Mauldin. He has recorded 44 catches for 949 yards this year.
Foster of the Dan Jones' team is only 97 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 150 carries Foster has put up 903 yards this year.
Rick Tate's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 615 from 884. The improvement was largely due to a 41-38 victory over the Vikings last week.
