The Gilmer Buckeyes are on the road again on Friday and play against the Glen Rose Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Gilmer had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 victory over Carthage on Friday.
Gilmer's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cadon Tennison, who threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Brendan Webb did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Glen Rose entered their tilt with West Plains with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Glen Rose blew past West Plains, posting a 45-13 victory on the road. Considering Glen Rose has won seven matches by more than 30 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Glen Rose to victory, but perhaps none more so than Canyon Evans, who threw for 381 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes. Evans hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for six straight games. Adrian Sanchez also helped out as he racked up 149 receiving yards.
Gilmer pushed their record up to 11-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Glen Rose, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.
