The Wasatch Wasps will head out on the road to take on the Maple Mountain Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Wasatch turned things around against Morgan on Friday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 14-2 victory.
The team relied heavily on Peyton Sunland, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Braelyn Hill was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Wasatch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 9-4 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Maple Mountain duked it out with Timpview on Thursday. The Eagles blew past the Thunderbirds 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brettlyn Walker was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was McClain Carter, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Wasatch's record is now 10-14. As for Maple Mountain, their record now sits at 17-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Wasatch hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wasatch came up short against Maple Mountain in their previous meeting back in March, falling 5-1. Can the Wasps avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
