Wayne Trace has gone a perfect 4-0 against Fairview recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Raiders will square off against the Apaches at 2:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wayne Trace 3.5, Fairview 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wayne Trace blew Coldwater out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Coldwater got their revenge. The Raiders fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 2-0. The shutout was out of character for the Raiders seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.
Meanwhile, Fairview made easy work of Montpelier on Tuesday and carried off a 14-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Apaches, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Elijah Arend and Anthony Singer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Arend pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Singer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Arend posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At the plate, Arend went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Singer went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Arend has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Olinger, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Timbrook, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Fairview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montpelier only managed four hits.
Fairview is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Wayne Trace, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-10.
Wayne Trace was able to grind out a solid win over Fairview in their previous matchup back in April, winning 6-1. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Apaches have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
