Village Christian is a perfect 4-0 against King/Drew since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Crusaders will take on the Golden Eagles at 9:00 a.m. Village Christian has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Village Christian managed to slip by Valley Christian the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Crusaders lost 13-3 to the Defenders on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last eight times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Village Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gaby Robel, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask King/Drew). Everything went their way against Fremont on Thursday as they made off with a 21-6 win. The Golden Eagles not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17, 2024.
Jordan Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Walker was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Lawrence, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
King/Drew always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Village Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for King/Drew, they moved to 4-10 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.
Village Christian took their win against King/Drew when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
