Basketball Recap: Avon Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Hanelie Cadet and Uwa Idada

Avon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-34 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Shore Vo-Tech Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-26 back in December of 2024.

Uwa Idada and Hanelie Cadet certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Idada posted seven points in addition to 22 rebounds and five assists, while Cadet went 7 of 14 to rack up 17 points and three steals. That was a full 50% of Avon's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Janelis Rivera Rodgriguez was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, Avon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Avon's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for South Shore Vo-Tech, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will square off against Norfolk County Agricultural at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Shore Vo-Tech, they will face off against Tri-County RVT at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
