Even though the West Valley Eagles have not done well against the Foothill Cougars recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. West Valley came out on top against Foothill by a score of 65-53. The victory was familiar territory for West Valley who now have three in a row.
West Valley was led to victory by Chase Kalnins and Jordan Heacock. Kalnins scored 25 points along with two steals, while Heacock scored 19 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Kalnins has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Blaze Collins, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Foothill had strong showings from Tyler Zanhiser, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five steals, and Cade Memeo, who scored 12 points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Caleb Belair, who scored eight points along with two steals.
West Valley's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Foothill, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8.
West Valley will take on University Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Foothill, they will head out on the road to challenge Chico at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chico knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Foothill likes a good challenge.
