Brighton has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Alta Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Brighton came up short against Olympus and fell 92-85. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Tuesday (75), Brighton still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaxon Soto, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nash Matheson, who scored 21 points.
Meanwhile, Alta entered their tilt with West with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Alta enjoyed a cozy 57-43 victory over West on Friday. Given Alta's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while West is ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carter Doleac and Jaxon Johnson were among the main playmakers for Alta as the former scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and the latter scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Johnson hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Ace Reiser was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Brighton's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Alta, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Brighton have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Alta, though, as they've been averaging only 27.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Brighton lost to Alta on the road by a decisive 67-48 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Brighton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
