The Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes will face off against the Minersville Battlin' Miners at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Schuylkill Haven is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Schuylkill Haven had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Tri-Valley put an end to it on Tuesday. The Hurricanes fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 3-2. The Hurricanes' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Schuylkill Haven saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Teagan Wehr, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Wehr has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Minersville never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Nativity BVM on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Green Wave. Considering the Battlin' Miners have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Minersville got a massive performance out of Sara McGrath, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave McGrath a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Sterner, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Minersville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Schuylkill Haven's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Minersville, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Minersville's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Schuylkill Haven has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Minersville, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 strikeouts. Will Schuylkill Haven keep running through batters, or will the Battlin' Miners buck the trend?
Schuylkill Haven skirted past Minersville 7-5 in their previous meeting on April 1st. Do the Hurricanes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Battlin' Miners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
