The Eastlake Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Pebble Hills Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pebble Hills took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Eastlake, who comes in off a win.
On Friday, Eastlake got the win against Franklin by a conclusive 3-0. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Eastlake never let Franklin on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-13, 25-16.
Meanwhile, Pebble Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Socorro. While the Spartans didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 25-16 in the first set.
Pebble Hills wouldn't go down easily and took Socorro into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking ten-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 15-5.
Eastlake will have to keep a close watch on Raelyn Shaver and Lauren Velez, a pair of players who had a big impact on Pebble Hills' prior game. Shaver had 51 assists and 14 digs, while Velez had 27 digs. Shaver has been hot for a while, having posted 14 or more assists the last 15 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Carrillo, who had ten digs.
Eastlake's victory bumped their record up to 32-4. As for Pebble Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-22.
Eastlake took their win against Pebble Hills when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
