Lexington has gone 8-2 against Dyer County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. Lexington will venture away from home to face off against Dyer County at 5:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Lexington's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Jackson North Side as Lexington made off with an 11-0 win.
Gordy Mooney was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Mooney was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last 12 matches.
In other batting news, Lexington let Lynley White and Kassidy Pollock run wild. White went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Pollock scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two RBI gave White a new career-high. Kennady Maness also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lexington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson North Side only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Dyer County had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They blew past the Eagles 13-3. Considering the Choctaws have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Molly Woody made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Woody was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kierstyn Ray was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Katie Caldwell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Dyer County pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lexington, their record is now 12-5-1.
Lexington came up short against Dyer County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-1. Can Lexington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
