It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Marianna Bulldogs can now relate to. They were the victim of a rough 41-17 loss at the hands of Florida State University High School on Friday. While losing is never fun, Marianna can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Florida State University High School is ranked 51st).
Rj Mayes and Ryan Peace certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Mayes rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown, while Peace gained 64 total yards and a touchdown.
Florida State University High School got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jeremy Johnston out in front who threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Ray Daly did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Florida State University High School's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Maurice Adams jr was especially locked on to Marianna's QB and sacked him three times.
Marianna's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Florida State University High School, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Marianna does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Florida State University High School will head out on the road to face off against Wakulla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wakulla is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
