Softball Recap: Columbia Academy Makes It Eight in a Row at Home

Columbia Academy took a 15-run loss the last time they faced off against Battle Ground Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs won by a run and slipped past the Wildcats 9-8. The win was nothing new for the Bulldogs as they're now sitting on four straight.

Anna Brewer made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Lila Pulley was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Emmalyn Cothran was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Columbia Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Columbia Academy pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Battle Ground Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-11-1.

Columbia Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Battle Ground Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Lipscomb Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
