The Valmeyer Pirates are taking a road trip to take on the Red Bud Musketeers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Pirates fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Gibault Catholic on Tuesday, sneaking past 10-8. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Madisyn Huddleston was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up eight earned runs off 11 hits. Huddleston was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Avery Proffer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Graycie Luberda was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Valmeyer hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gibault Catholic struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, Red Bud made easy work of Nashville on Wednesday and carried off a 15-2 victory.
Like Valmeyer, Red Bud also got a great game from a two-way player: Olivia Geralds. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Geralds was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Peyton Kreher was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Julia Whelan, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
