Softball Recap: Kennedy Wins Going Away Against Verdugo Hills

Kennedy won against Poly last Wednesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went the Cougars' way against the Verdugo Hills Dons as they made off with an 11-3 win. Considering the Cougars have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Anais Perez looked comfortable as she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alina Ortiz was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Sofia Melgoza also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Kennedy and bumps their season record up to 7-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Verdugo Hills, they dropped their record down to 3-5-1 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Kennedy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-9 loss against Westlake on the 12th. As for Verdugo Hills, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Arleta at 3:30 p.m. on the 23rd.
