Katie Reed made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellycia Shartzer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Braleigh Armes, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Washington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shoals only posted a batting average of .211.
Meanwhile, South Spencer came up short against Apollo on Monday, falling 10-2. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
South Spencer saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ruthee Clark, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Washington picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-16. As for South Spencer, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Washington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Spencer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Washington took their victory against South Spencer when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 19-9 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hatchets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
