Jefferson Academy and The Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Jaguars will head out on the road to square off against the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson Academy has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 5th.
Colorado Academy hit Jefferson Academy with a five-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars came up short against the Mustangs, falling 14-4.
Jefferson Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austen Bauer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another was Ben Pederson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
The Academy couldn't beat Fort Morgan on Monday even though they stacked six runs on them in the seventh inning. The Wildcats fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 11-10. Even if the Wildcats couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Brennan Staudinger was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Dylan Akers made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Gabriel Atencio was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
The Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Jefferson Academy, their record now sits at 2-15-1.
