The Laguna Creek Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Laguna Creek didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Kennedy, but they still walked away with a 55-49 win. Given Laguna Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Kennedy is ranked 342nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kj Ramey was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jalen Flenory, who scored six points along with six assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Lincoln had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They managed a 77-71 win over St. Mary's.
Anthony Moore continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 33 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Donez Lindsey, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Laguna Creek is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 18-10 record this season. As for Lincoln, they pushed their record up to 23-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Laguna Creek have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Laguna Creek opened the new year with a less-than-successful 71-64 loss to Lincoln. Can Laguna Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
