Bellaire is 0-9 against Lamar since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bellaire Cardinals will be playing at home against the Lamar Texans at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Bellaire sitting on four straight wins and Lamar on nine.
Last Thursday, Bellaire took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 55-8 victory over Chavez. With Bellaire ahead 36-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Bellaire found their leader in underclassman Will Hazen, who threw for 208 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Chance Diebner, who gained 109 total yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lamar can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent game two weeks ago. They blew past Chavez, posting a 81-0 victory at home. Given Lamar's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Chavez is ranked 1173rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lamar can attribute much of their success to Chaseston Guidry, who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns, and Justin Howard, who gained 138 total yards and three touchdowns. Guidry was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. Another player making a difference was Jordan Reaves, who threw for 148 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Bellaire's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Lamar, their win was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
Bellaire was dealt a bruising 63-0 defeat at the hands of Lamar when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Will Bellaire have more luck at home instead of on the road?
