Heritage came out on top against South-Doyle on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Mountaineers blew past the Cherokees 12-0. The Mountaineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by eight runs or more this season.
Katelyn Russell made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since April 4th. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Autumn Brooke Perrin was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Carly Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Heritage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South-Doyle only posted an OBP of .125.
Heritage has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for South-Doyle, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.
Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South-Doyle, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lenoir City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
