The Eastmoor Academy Warriors pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were outmatched by Walnut Ridge on the road and fell 91-56. Eastmoor Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-20.
Eastmoor Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Watkins, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was King Moody, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Walnut Ridge was led to victory by Marquis Lucas and Dominique Aekins. Lucas scored 23 points along with seven rebounds, while Aekins scored 29 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Aekins has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Deon Johnson, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Eastmoor Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Walnut Ridge, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Eastmoor Academy will take on South at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South has four straight victories, Eastmoor Academy has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field. As for Walnut Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Briggs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Briggs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 583rd, while Walnut Ridge is ranked 200th).
